Over the weekend of April 17 and 18th, the area around Worth Ranch and Possum Kingdom Lake received in excess of 8 inches of rain in some areas. This forced the Dam to open 4 flood gates ultimately causing the river to rise well beyond normal levels. At Worth Ranch the lifeguard stand at the boat docks was submerged and the barber pole had only a few feet left before it would have been submerged. The high water forced the evacuation of the campsites on the other side of the low water crossing (Houston, Deaf Smith, Travis, Bowie, etc.)
